I enjoyed that immensely! ;D
It's a good idea to post this in the thread with your profile & bio. We should consider this your official introductory post. It's good to have all these things in one topic.

Still working, albeit extremely slowly. Current word count stands at over forty-seven hundred, with no end in sight. Further updates as I reach milestones that are worth reporting

Haha, okay. I'm having a slowdown too because my dad was suddenly in the hospital. I've had to take care of him the last couple of weeks.

I will be releasing another portion of my writings shortly, hopefully within the week. It's not completely finished yet, but I found another good break point, so I'll go ahead and show you what I've got thus far. The third part will be the conclusion of the story, and will provide background for Mereel's personal life in the 'present' (13 ABY). I should mention that the story is set in 11 ABY, when Mereel is in the second year of his hunt.

Expect a new post Friday or Saturday. I've just finished wrapping up the big fight scene, and all I've got left to do is the immediate aftermath. Once that's done, it'll be ready to post ;D

Part 2 is up! As always, constructive criticism is welcome. I'm afraid I have a tendency to get rather wordy, although I did pare it down as much as I could. Parts 1 and 2 together now hold the record for the single longest work I've ever completed, standing at just short of 6600 words ;D

Wow, that was cool... I can't think of anything to criticize, actually. I was so engaged in the story that I didn't pay a lot of attention to the actual writing. I read it all in one breath, haha. So all I can say for now is that the flow is great.

Thanks! ;D
I tried to make the story as engaging as possible, while at the same time staying true to the original layout of the action. It worked out pretty well for the most part. While I did end up having to change the sequence of events, as well as the events themselves, in several places, it ended up being pretty close to what I originally envisioned.

I'm not familiar with some of the weapons Mereel is using. Is it a lightsaber that he uses or some other type of blade? And he has something on his wrist that can deflect a lightsaber... is it something like Durge is using in the old Clone Wars shorts?

The weapons and armor are traditional Mandalorian. Mereel's armor, or beskar'gam in Mando'a, is crafted from Mandalorian iron ( beskar), which has the property of being impervious to lightsabers as well as blaster fire. The sabre that he wields (his beskad) is also constructed of Mandalorian iron, as is his crushgaunt (the item that he wears on his hand). Crushgaunts are a highly illegal weapons designed to augment the wearer's strength, allowing them to bend and crush even metal with ease. They take the form of a wrist-length gauntlet, covered with studded beskar plates, and incorporating mechanization that dramatically increases the force that the wearer can apply. Although their use was outlawed in the Mandalore sector for a time, they can still be found in use among bounty hunters and mercenaries. The beskad is the traditional Mandalorian short sword. Typically, the blade is about one-third to two-thirds the length of a lightsaber's, very thick and broad, and quite heavy. It more closely resembles a machete than a sword, and is usually used like a hammer, taking advantage of the weapon's heft. Mereel's personal beskad is two-handed, with a straight, single-edged blade, rudimentary crossguard, and a ring-type pommel. It's also lighter and slightly longer than is usual, allowing him to duel fairly capably. Finally, beskar was a mainstay of the Mandalorian economy for millennia, until the Empire strip-mined Mandalore during its occupation after the Clone Wars. However, the metal's properties are only partly natural. Its strength and protective qualities come from the manner in which it is worked, a closely guarded secret known only to Mandalorian smiths. As a result, the metal was hoarded by the Empire in heavily guarded locations, such as the Maw Installation. Mereel himself is a metalworker, and was lucky enough to track down a small cache of beskar in his youth. His weapons and armor are handmade by him, and consumed almost his entire supply of iron. I hope that answers your questions If you have any more, feel free to ask.

Wow, I had no idea Mandalorian Iron was lightsaber resistant.

By the way, I don't know if you've been following season 2 of The Clone Wars... it's got an interesting weapon that is being used by the leader of the Mandalorian Death Watch.

I haven't actually watched The Clone Wars, but I have been keeping more or less up-to-date on the series. To be perfectly honest, I have to say that I'm less than impressed with the handling of Mandalorians, but that's rather beside the point.
I was aware of the 'darksaber' wielded by the leader of the Death Watch in the series, but it's my understanding that, rather than being a Mandalorian weapon, it's simply a dark side-infused lightsaber with a black, sword-like blade that was stolen from the Jedi Temple at some point. Originally, it was supposed to have been a vibroblade, but it was decided that no sword-like, non-energy blade should be shown to withstand a lightsaber, so as to preserve the Jedi weapon's uniqueness. I can understand that, but considering how much material the Expanded Universe provided to work with, I don't see why they couldn't have used an existing Mandalorian weapon, or simply created something that fit within Mandalorian culture.
