I'd like to offer a little bit of info on my new roleplaying character, Mereel Ma'viin. He's a Mandalorian mercenary, Arkanian by blood but adopted by a Mandalorian when he was only a year old. His original name, whatever it might have been, is unknown, and he was renamed after the Mand'alor Jaster Mereel. The name of his adopted clan, Ma'viin, means 'free lance', obviously a reference to a history of soldiering-for-hire, but also to show that they bend knee to no one. Only one man, the Mand'alor, has their allegiance according to Mandalorian tradition, and their loyalty is given only to those that they feel have earned it. Mereel is fairly unusual in that he shares physical characteristics with both pure-blooded Arkanians and the offshoot branch of the species. He has five-fingered hands, blue human-like eyes, pointed ears, and white skin and hair, all offshoot characteristics, but ages more slowly than typical offshoots, and has more in common genetically with pure Arkanians. This is believed to be the result of genetic modification, a common practice among pure Arkanians. Also worth noting is that Mereel is moderately Force-sensitive. His potential is mostly untapped, due to the inherent Mandalorian distrust for Jedi; while he personally has no particular feelings on the subject of Jedi, he is nevertheless reluctant to become involved with them. However, he has taught himself to make rudimentary use of his abilities in ways that assist his physical skills. I haven't worked out all of the fine points of the character yet, but I will expand upon this as I finalize details.

Sounds cool Mereel, can't wait to see the RP. I like how you bring a different character style to the board.

For those who might have missed it, I posted my RP character profile. The name is Hyde Solari, and he's a Gray Jedi, so he's got a pretty unorthodox behavior for a jedi standards. An example of his unorthodox behavior for a jedi is that he has a girlfriend and a group of smugglers friends, and from time to time he joins them to earn a living. Hyde has a maverick and rebellious nature so he has a tense relationship with the most conservative jedi. Many jedi distrust Hyde and wary that his disregard for standard and regular ways of the jedi might lead him to the dark side. However, untill now Hyde has succesfully managed to stay away from the dark path. Hyde is untrusting with strangers, but once someone gains his trust, he's absolutely loyal to them. I only have the first draft of the character so far. I intend to give it a different profile from the "regular jedi" type, so I hope I can help bringing a little colour to the storyline. Like Mereel over there

I noticed your profile, Hyde! I didn't feel like leaving a comment in your profile topic, but here it is: I really like it! I think you've got an interesting character to work with. You're not completely unique in the sense that some of the Reborn Jedi have/had lovers/love interests as well, and some of us (including yours truly) have some smuggler friends. However, the issue of attachments and allegiances will remain a controversial subject in the RP, and will definitely be a theme in the next chapter! I also like Mereel's profile.. it's clear that you guys have put a lot of thought into your characters, which can only pay off.

I like your profile, too, Hyde Looks like we're collecting some unique characters for the new RP! By the way, I edited your post so that 'Gray Jedi' links correctly, switched it to forum script instead of HTML. I hope you don't mind.

Hmmm, isn't a Gray Jedi the same thing as a Shadow Jedi?
Nevermind, I see the distinction now.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm glad you like it so far. I know, I didn't go as far as creating a totaly unique character type for this RP (like a Mandalorian, for instance). I went for a jedi, but as a Gray Jedi, he has some distinctive notes, specially due to his rebellious nature and because he thinks it's not good to deny one's emotions. More than his relations with smugglers or his attachment to his frinds and girlfriend, which is not THAT strange in times of the new jedi order (heck, even Luke Skywalker married Mara Jade!), what's more "unique" about Hyde is he doesn't try to supress his emotions and his passion like a regular jedi would do, all the contrary, he allows his emotions to drive his actions and he's defiant towards authority. Yet, unlike a dark jedi, he tries to control his emotions with peace and serenity to avoid falling to the dark side and he strives to find balance for himself and for the galaxy.
Also, a Gray Jedi disagrees a lot with the Council. He sees their understanding of the force and their views on how Jedi should act as overly strict, hence they see Gray Jedi as reckless and dangerous. Jolee Bindo from KotOR is a good example of a Gray Jedi (I totally loved that cranky old guy! lol). I'm not sure about the distinction with Shadow Jedi, tho... I think Shadow Jedi are the ones that use both light and dark force powers, right? but I don't know much more about them...
Thanks for fixing my post, btw. I guess I'm too used to html code...

Well, there are actually two types of Shadow Jedi:
1. Crusaders of the Jedi Order, also called 'Jedi Shadows', whose primary role is to hunt down followers/practitioners of the dark side.
2. Those that adhere the belief that Light and Dark Side are two sides of a coin, and that balance lies in the middle. (Whereas traditional Jedi believe the Balance is all the way at the Light Side end of the spectrum). Big difference with the other Shadow Jedi.
None of them are the same as Gray Jedi, who follow the will of the Living Force.

You're welcome to participate once we have everything up and running. I still need to fill up the rules and info sections. And then I have to round off the old RP chapter. So it might take a little while, but we'll get there.
