My wife seems to have developed a kind of PC plague... Any computer she looks at develops problems. As you know, before Christmas, our PC wouldn't even start Windows. It happened when my wife decided to switch off the computer when it was running chkdsk... ... To cut a LONG story short, about 200 working hours later, I managed to get it working again. Then, two weeks ago, my wife tells me we've caught a virus (not my fault, I might add - I use my laptop mainly at the moment!). Not only could AVG not get rid of it, but our PC started shutting down after it was running for about 5 mins max... Soooo - I nipped it in the bud. I am SO grateful that when I reinstalled XP recently, I decided to partition the hard drive with only Windows XP and Applications on the C partition... AND that I had carefully prepared a folder with up-to-date drivers, XP SP3, IE installation files etc... saving me all the hassle. Only 5 hours later - we have a virus free system with all our main software installed (apart from games)... What next?

Haha, good move. I always partition my harddrive too. I also keep a folder with drivers and my favourite software. I've had my share of PC troubles in the past. That's all I will say because I don't want to jinx it.

Scary That sounds like a good idea to me too. I think the only major trouble I've ever had with a computer was when the power supply died, but it never hurts to be prepared
