Hyde Solari was born in Nar Shaddaa a little more than a decade BBY. He was raised by his father, Layne Solari, a Jedi Knight who left the Order after years of a tense relationship with the Council. After being expelled from the Order, his father exiled to Nar Shaddaa, where he decided to leave his Jedi life behind and form a family. At the age of 6, Hyde lost his mother to the knowt's disease.
Later Hyde and his father got involved in various smuggling operations with a group of friends from Nar Shaddaa. After a while in that business they made some contacts with the Rebel Alliance and started supplying Rebel Alliance bases and eventually, New Republic bases.
Although since his early childhood, Hyde shown force-sensitivity, his father never was reluctant to give him any kind of Jedi training due to his past in the Order. However, after various incidents with other smugglers, pirates and even with imperial forces, his father decided to train him, although in a rather unorthodox way. At the age of 17 Hyde fell in love with a Twi'lek girl from Nar Shaddaa called Sienn D'ukal, who from then on would join Hyde and his father in their smuggling business. At the age of 18, they fell into an imperial ambush, as a result Hyde and his companions, inclouding his father and his Twi'lek girlfriend, got captured. While they were being transferred for interrogation, they tryed a desperate escaping attemp that resulted in the killing of all of Hyde's companions, inclouding his father and girlfriend, escaping Hyde barely alive thanks to his father, who sacrificed his life for him.
Since his father's death Hyde felt it was time to give a turn to his life. Now and then, he joined some of his friends in smuggling operations, but only enough to pay the bills and only when he felt it was "for a right cause". During one of his smuggling gigs Hyde fell in love once again, when he met the captain of the smuggler's ship, a human named Lena Keyra, who became his current girlfriend. From then on, Hyde only did his smuggling gigs as a member of his girlfriend's crew, and having no need for a freighter anymore, he traded his ship and aquired an A-Wing starfighter which he painted black, to his taste.
In the meanwhile, Hyde went through with his Jedi training in an autodidact way. He never felt completely confortable with the Jedi Order, he considered them as too conservative and dissagreed with many of their rules and guidelines, specially their aversion towards emotions, so was never interested in joining their ranks. The Dark Side, however didn't attracted him either, so he wondered making his own path as he learnt the ways of the force, searching for balance both in the force and for his life and thus walking the fine line between the light and the dark side. He believed that controlling his emotions, neither blocking them as the Jedi did, nor allowing them to control him, as the Dark Jedi did, he could find equilibrium and balance beyond the corruption of the dark side and the restrictions of the light side.
Given his personality traits, other Jedi started calling him a Gray Jedi. At first he didn't care much about those comments, but in time he got to study who the Gray Jedi were, how they understood the force, and he started liking the term. After studying the history and life of some Gray Jedi (or so-named Gray Jedi), and reading the Gray Jedi Code and the Book of Balance, Hyde soon found out that he shared many of the Gray Jedi's beliefs, so he accepted being referred as such.
Throughout his life Hyde only joined other Jedi for short periods of time with various outcomes, never following anyone blindly, but always willing to step up and take action when he felt that the cause was right.
