Man - I saw AC/DC live yesterday. ;D Freaking rocked my socks off.
Even though I'm mostly into underground indie rock these days, I have to say I still love AC/DC after all these years.
It's been 8 years since I last saw them and I have to say they were better than ever. I forgot how hard they rocked live. Of course I was right in the front rows, center stage near the big catwalk. ;D
For those of you who know AC/DC, they played all the (predictable) classic hits, but they also played five (!) songs off the new album. Best of all though ,they absolutely surprised by playing some really old material that I hadn't expected, like Shot Down in Flames and even Dog Eat Dog (one of my personal all-time favourites).
Anyway, they kicked off number two and a shiver rolled down my spine as Angus played the opening chords of
Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be - as performed by AC/DC
Sometimes I think This woman is kinda hot Sometimes I think This woman is sometimes not Puts me down, fools me around Why does she do this to me Out for satisfaction, any piece of action That ain't the way it should be
She needs love, knows I'm the man She's gotta see Pours my beer, licks my ear Brings out the devil in me...
Hell ain't a bad place to be
Spends my money, drinks my booze Stays out every night And I got to thinking, hey, just a minute Something ain't right Disillusion and confusion Make me wanna cry All the same, you're playin' your games Tellin' me those lies
Don't mind you playing a demon baby As long as it's with me If this is hell then you could say It's heavenly...
Hell ain't a bad place to be
Late at night, turns down the lights Closes up on me Opens my heart, tears it apart Brings out the devil in me...
Hell, ain't no bad place to be I said hell, ain't no bad place to be Hell, ain't no bad place to be You know that hell, ain't no bad place to be

That sounds amazing! I didn't get to see an AC/DC concert yet. There are rumors all the time saying they will come play here, but for now I keep waiting... I hope they play old stuff when they come here too! I'd love to hear stuff from Bon Scott's times! hehe

Bringin' On the Heartbreak - Def Leppard
Gypsy Sittin' lookin' pretty A broken rose with laughin' eyes You're a mystery Always runnin' wild Like a child without a home You're always searchin' Searchin' for a feelin' But it's easy come and easy go Oh
I'm sorry, but it's true You're bringin' on the heartache Takin' all the best of me Oh, can't you see You got the best of me Whoah, can't you see
You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache
You're such a secret Misty eyed and shady Lady, how you hold the key Oh, you're like a candle Your flame is slowly fadin' Burnin' out and burnin' me Can't you see
Just tryin' to say to you You're bringin' on the heartache Takin' all the best of me Oh, can't you see You got the best of me Whoah, can't you see
You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache Can't you see Can't you see... No! No! No
You got the best of me Oh, can't you see You got the best of me Whoah, can't you see You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache You're bringin' on the heartbreak Bringin' on the heartache You're bringin' on the heartbreak

*crickets*
Since things are so quiet around here, I figure I might as well jump in with some new song lyrics.
Ride Forever - Paul Gross
I was born north of Great Slave, 1898 And I rode near all my life on a ranch near Devil's Gate And I've seen the world around me bend and flip and change Hey, it feels like rain That's a thundercloud Well, I've been called a coward, but I've seen two world wars And I lost my son Virgil, my Korean reward And my Lucy died last summer, you ask me if I cry Hell, I'll show you tears They're all over this ground Falling from these blue Alberta skies
We're gonna ride forever You can't keep horsemen in a cage Should the angels call Well, it's only then We might pull in the reins
They tell me I'm an old man, they tell me I am blind They took my driver's license, this house ain't far behind I said jump back all you big suits, you've got something wrong 'Cause I ain't gone No, I ain't gone I am still breathing, and I still have my pride And I have my memories, your life it never dies Like the wind that blows in thunder, like the stallion on the fly I got it all And I'm standing tall Underneath these blue Alberta skies
We're gonna ride forever You can't keep horsemen in a cage Should the angels call Well, it's only then We might pull in the reins
So I say to all you old men, don't let yourself get broke If you think the world's gone crazy, and it's scratching at your throat It's time to dust off that old saddle, get it on a horse Kick up your spurs We're gonna run like stink We're gonna tear across these blue Alberta skies
We're gonna ride forever You can't keep horsemen in a cage Should the angels call Well, it's only then We might pull in the reins We're gonna ride forever You can't keep horsemen in a cage Should the angels call Well, it's only then We might pull in the reins We're gonna ride forever You can't keep horsemen in a cage Should the angels call Well, it's only then We might pull in the reins

Cool. A lot of those songs you're posting, I've never heard of. Sorry for being so inactive, by the way. I've had to take care of my dad for some time... he had a heart attack sometime before Christmas. He's doing okay now though. I'm hoping to pick up the RP soon.

And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - How Near, How Far
Looking back in time Through verses set in nursery rhyme At oil painted eyes Of muses left behind I swear I know not why Those eyes have always left me dry
She stands with arms stretched out Towards the mountains & the clouds Oil painted eyes Blind yet hypnotized I swear I know not why Those eyes have always left me dry
(How near, how far, how lost they are)
I've rendered every line Every contour of a muse's eye Painted in my eyes mind On canvases of time I swear I know not why Those eyes have always left me dry
How near, how far, how lost they are

I found this song several months ago when I saw the movie Gods and Generals, which is about the early years of the American Civil War. The song has an unusually haunting quality that appealed to me, and I have since added it to my music collection.
I'm including a YouTube video of the song playing during the movie's opening credits. The effect of the music, played against a backdrop of regimental banners from both the Federal and Confederate armies, is quite remarkable.
Going Home - Mary Fahl
They say there's a place Where dreams have all gone They never said where But I think I know It's miles through the night Just over the dawn On the road that will take me home
I know in my bones I've been here before The ground feels the same Though the land's been torn I've a long way to go The stars tell me so On this road that will take me home
Love waits for me 'round the bend Leads me endlessly on Surely sorrows shall find their end And all our troubles will be gone And I'll know what I've lost And all that I've won When the road finally takes me home
And when I pass by Don't lead me astray Don't try to stop me Don't stand in my way I'm bound for the hills Where cool waters flow On this road that will take me home
Love waits for me 'round the bend Leads me endlessly on Surely sorrows shall find their end And all our troubles will be gone And we'll know what we've lost And all that we've won When this road finally takes me home
I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home

Whoa sorry - I was in a hurry when I saw you posted this, and then forgot it was posted... I like it. The singing reminds me a bit of Enya, who did some of the songs for the LotR movies. Despite the instrumentation, it's actually a pretty 'folky' piece in theme and words. I like how your music and song lyrics always seem to have that 'romantic' (in the literary sense) feel to them, and a sense of 'adventure' and reflection. If that makes any sense. I think I'll check out the movie. I've always liked the Civil War theme. Also used to watch 'North & South' when I was a kid.

Gods and Generals, which is based on a book of the same name, is the prequel to the movie Gettysburg, which itself is based on a book called The Killer Angels. The third installment of the series, The Last Full Measure, has never been made into a movie, to the best of my knowledge.
Of the two that did make it to film, Gods and Generals is, in my opinion at least, the better of the two. The attention to detail on both is incredible, and the stories are both well told and relatively accurate both to the source material and to history, but I thought that the characterization was handled somewhat better in the prequel. Also, Robert Duvall (in Gods and Generals) makes a much better Robert E. Lee than Martin Sheen (Gettysburg).
Your observation does make perfect sense to me, by the way. I do tend to gravitate towards romantic adventure in my literary and musical preferences, as well as in my writing style (at least to a certain degree). Most people would be quite surprised to realise this , since in person I'm usually quiet to the point of being unnerving.

Well, you know what they say about silent waters... I'm much the same when it comes to books. And I love road movies. Also, (Spaghetti) westerns! ;D I've always wanted to be a cowboy on the old frontier. I know it's a very romanticized image, but still, hehe. Imagine living in the times of the great discoveries...

Stan Rogers - Northwest Passage
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line Through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea
Westward from the Davis Strait, 'tis there 'twas said to lie The sea route to the Orient, for which so many died Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones And a long-forgotten, lonely cairn of stones
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line Through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea
Three centuries thereafter, I take passage over land In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his sea of flowers began Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line Through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea
Then through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest Who cracked the mountain ramparts, and did show a path for me To race the roaring Fraser to the sea
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line Through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea
How, then, am I so different from the first men through this way? Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men To find there but the road back home again
Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea Tracing one warm line Through a land so wide and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea

This one is quite a departure from the type of music that I normally prefer. I heard a co-worker blasting it at full volume in the parking lot at work one day, and for some reason it just stuck in my head.
Seasons After - 11:11
You taught me all you thought that I'd need to know And then you passed away And then you passed away What is my destination? What will become of me On that cold day? On that cold day
Can't ignore these messages from voices in my head Warning me I've much to do before I wake up dead
Stand for something now Or fall for anything The time has come to shout loud I won't go quietly Won't be a face in the crowd I'll stand defiantly Keep on beating me down You can't beat me out of me
Tomorrow is promised to no man When Death comes calling We must take his hand We must take his hand Don't wait until the final hour It may never arrive If that's the plan If that's the plan
Can't ignore these messages from voices in my head Warning me I've much to do before I wake up dead
Stand for something now Or fall for anything The time has come to shout loud I won't go quietly Won't be a face in the crowd I'll stand defiantly Keep on beating me down You can't beat me out of me
Come on I hear a distant sound I know we all fall down And one day, I will return to the ground I scream the truth that I have found: The time is now
(You've got to) Stand for something now (Stand for something now) Or fall for anything The time has come to shout loud (The time has come to shout loud) I won't go quietly Won't be a face in the crowd (Won't be a face in the crowd) I'll stand defiantly Keep on beating me down You can't beat me out of me
Stand for something now (You can't beat me out of me) Stand for something now (You can't beat me out of me)

Didn't know the song, looked it up on youtube. It does rock. My friend listens a lot to bands like this. So if you like the sound, there's a lot of music to find in that genre.
